LOUISE COLES

BIOGRAPHY

I am a singer/songwriter based in Surrey. I write and perform songs from the heart in a melodic acoustic style, taking inspiration from my own experiences and the people who have shaped my life. My style has been described as wistful, simple and engaging. Whilst I prefer not to pigeonhole myself into a particular genre, I am often referred to as an Indie/folk artist.

Having previously spent several years as a vocalist singing covers in a number of function bands, I took a break from music. A songwriting workshop inspired me to dust down my guitar again and write original material. I have since been performing on the local music scene in and around Surrey/Hampshire, at great local venues such as GT Live Sessions Guildford, Music At The Pottery (Farnham), The Loft (Basingstoke), The Fiery Bird Acoustic Sessions (Woking), The Camden Club (N London) as well as festivals such as Weyfest, Staycation & Cornwall Folk Festival.

I have featured on local radio, (including Artist of the Week, Wey Valley radio), BBC Introducing (Radio Cornwall) and BBC Upload. My songs were long listed by the amazing "Talent Is Timeless" competition 2 years running.

My influences include Eddi Reader, Julia Fordham, Lorraine Mackintosh and acclaimed songwriter Boo Hewerdine, with whom I recorded my first single 'Cornish Blue.'
